SQUAREROSE KNAPWEED (Centaurea vigata Lam.)
GROWTH HABIT: Perennial, erect to 18 inches.
LEAVES: Covered with dense fine hair. Lower leaves - deeply dissected. Upper leaves - bract like.
STEMS: Many branched, covered with dense fine hair.
FLOWER: Terminal, small, rose to pink colored. Cract tip spines are sharp, spreading, recurved. And longer than the lateral spines on each bract.
ROOTS: Taproot.
SEEDS: 3 to 4 per head, 1/8 inch long, heads fall readily from plant stems.
OTHER: Introduced from eastern Mediterranean.
