UW sponsors rangeland monitoring how-to workshop near Meeteetse
The University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) is sponsoring “Rangeland Monitoring Made Easy” 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at the MC Land and Cattle ranch north of Meeteetse.
The condition of a grazing allotment at the end of the past season compared to the beginning could determine whether or not a producer’s grazing permit is reauthorized, said Sandy Frost, UW CES educator for Big Horn, Hot Springs, Park and Washakie counties.
“The workshop will cover all you need to know to collect and record data regarding your range condition,” said Frost. “If producers want to claim a grazing loss due to drought, for example, they will have to document the forage availability for a non-insured program claim.”
Barton Stam, UW CES educator for sustainable management of rangeland resources in those counties, will conduct the workshop.
Lunch is provided. The ranch address is 318 Meeteetse Creek (3JC) Road. For further directions, call the UW CES office in Powell at (307) 754-8836.
