UW sponsors estate planning program Nov. 15 in Casper
Estate planning can never start too early.
To help begin the process, an informative program is being offered at the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) office in Casper in partnership with the Wyoming Agriculture and Natural Resource Mediation Program.
"Passing It On: Farm Transfer and Estate Planning in Wyoming" is 7-8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Agricultural Resource and Learning Center at 2011 Fairgrounds Road. The program is open to the public.
Short presentations on estate planning topics for farmers and ranchers will be made by Carolyn Paseneaux, a Casper attorney, and UW CES specialist Cole Ehmke.
"This program introduces agriculturalists to the process of transferring a farm estate," Ehmke said. "Many Wyoming producers haven't started a conversation with family members about their estate and don't have even a basic will.
"This program," Ehmke continued, "provides two presentations on tools used to transfer an estate and a walk-through of an excellent resource developed by the Wyoming Department of Agriculture, the University of Wyoming and Wyoming attorneys. We'll also have plenty of time to answer questions."
Ehmke said the focus of the workshop is helping people get started with the estate transfer process and develop and implement a plan with appropriate tools.
“This information is really important when meeting with other estate-planning professionals, such as attorneys, tax advisers, and financial planners," he said.
Cost for the workshop is $10. Participants will receive a binder of estate planning materials.
