Wheatland workshop offers resources to small-acreage owners
Small-acreage owners curious about issues unique to their lifestyle can hear from natural resource experts at a small-acreage, hands-on workshop in Wheatland.
The workshop is 3-7 p.m. Thursday, May 18, in the Platte Valley Bank Community Room at 200 16th St.
“By the end of the day, we hope those attending will have a more comprehensive understanding of how to manage their land to best meet their goals and expectations,” said Dallas Mount, University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) educator for Platte, Goshen and Laramie counties, and also a presenter.
Seminar topics are hands-on pasture management; grazing and mowing a few acres; tree selection, care, and windbreak design; and weed control and management.
The workshop is sponsored by UW CES, the Platte County Resource District and Barnyards&Backyards, a quarterly magazine about rural living in Wyoming.
A similar small-acreage workshop last month in Casper drew 54.
Land parcels up to 49 acres are the fastest growing farm size in Wyoming, according to the 2002 U.S. Department of Agriculture Census. Holdings with at least $1,000 in annual agricultural production are considered a farm by the USDA.
Dinner will be provided by the Platte County Resource District. For more information, contact Mount at (307) 322-3667 or dmount@uwyo.edu, or visit www.barnyardsandbackyards.com
