4-H educator joins Sheridan County Cooperative Extension Service office

Patricia Tatman will start March 13 as the 4-H youth extension educator in the Sheridan County University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) office.

Tatman has a bachelor’s of science degree in agriculture business and a master’s degree in family and consumer sciences with emphasis in child and family development from UW.

“She brings strong 4-H experience, participating as a youth in Stillwater County, Mont., and serving as a 4-H teen ambassador,” said Susan James, federal relations and staff development coordinator with the UW CES. 4-H is the youth arm of the UW CES, and its state offices are in the College of Agriculture.

4-H is a program that can serve all youth, said Tatman.  “It gives opportunities for learning, travel, scholarships, and friendships.  It has strong ag roots, which is something that is very important to me, but it also branches out into programs not traditionally related to agriculture, which gives 4-H members a broad spectrum or projects and events to participate in.”

Tatman was a member of collegiate 4-H for four years and had two summer internships in the Wyoming State 4-H Office. She has authored two UW CES publications – 4-H: An Exclusively Inclusive Program, available on-line at http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/Wyo4h/Inclusive/Intro.pdf, and Youth with Disabilities Facts Sheets, available at http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/wyo4h/Inclusive/FactSheets.html.

“While I have lifelong 4-H experience, my two internships gave me a look into what happens ‘behind the scenes’ so to speak and gave me a good foundation as to what Wyoming 4-H is all about,” said Tatman. “I have a lot to learn and I need to get out in Sheridan County and meet the community, but my previous 4-H experience allows me to understand what my job responsibilities and expectations are.  I'm excited to get started!”
