Cheyenne-area workshop offers resources to small-acreage owners
Cheyenne-area small-acreage owners curious about issues unique to their lifestyle can hear from natural resource experts at a small-acreage, hands-on workshop in Archer.
The workshop is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at the former Archer University of Wyoming Research and Extension Center. Those wishing to attend can take the Archer exit (Exit 370) south off I-80 and follow the signs. The Archer exit is about four miles east of Cheyenne.
Lunch will be provided by Laramie County Conservation District (LCCD). RSVP is requested by May 11 by calling (307) 772-2600.
Sponsors are the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service, the Historic Trails Resource Conservation and Development Council, LCCD, Wyoming State Forestry Division, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
“By the end of the day, we hope small-acreage owners will have a more comprehensive understanding of how to coordinate their resources to better meet their needs,” said Rex Lockman, wildlife and range specialist with LCCD. “We also hope to have answered their questions or referred them to an organization that may be able to help.”
Seminars are weed control and management, pasture renovation, grazing management and creating bird and wildlife habitat.
A similar small-acreage workshop last month in Casper drew 54.
Land parcels up to 49 acres are the fastest growing farm size in Wyoming, according to the 2002 U.S. Department of Agriculture Census. Holdings with at least $1,000 in annual agricultural production are considered a farm by the USDA.
