Kerry Steward            UW nutrition program coordinator joins Converse County CES office

Kerry Steward has joined the Converse County University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service office as the Cent$ible Nutrition Program (CNP) coordinator.

Steward, of Douglas, graduated from UW in 1986 with a bachelor’s of science degree in finance, according to Mary Kay Wardlaw, CNP director with the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences in the College of Agriculture.

CNP teaches people to eat more sensibly on a budget.

“I’m excited to have the chance to work with a program that truly offers a hand up instead of just a handout,” said Steward. “I think the CNP is proactive in providing clients with an avenue to make positive lifelong changes instead of being reactive and providing one-time crisis intervention.”

CNP is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Stamp Program.

CNP has been serving Glenrock, she said, and added, “I plan to give the CNP a strong presence in Douglas as well. I am really looking forward to working with the families in the entire county.”

Steward was a business teacher at North Park High School in Walden, Colo., and most recently was a paraprofessional at Douglas High School. Her husband, Mark, teaches science at Douglas High School. They have three children and have lived in Douglas since 2004.

She can be reached at (307) 358-2417 or at ksteward@uwyo.edu.
