4-H educator joins Big Horn County extension office

Crystal Krein will join the Big Horn County University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) office March 19 as 4-H youth educator.

Krein graduated from Niobrara County High School in Lusk in 2002 and received a bachelor’s degree in range livestock production in 2006 from Chadron State College in Nebraska. She is a 10-year member of 4-H in Niobrara County and brings experience working two summers as a 4-H intern in Niobrara and Weston counties.

“I was interested in the position because Big Horn County has many small towns and is an agricultural county, and I feel I will fit in well,” she said. “I also wanted this position because I strongly believe in the 4-H program, and I want to be a part of continuing the standard of excellence.”

Raised on a ranch in Niobrara County, Krein brings 4-H experience with livestock projects and in areas such as clothing, visual arts and photography.

“In addition to her strong 4-H background, Crystal chose a double minor in ag marketing and ag communications,” said Susan James, federal relations and staff development coordinator for the UW CES.

Working at a sale barn in Crawford, Neb., piqued an interest in marketing.

Krein said, “I feel combining these minors with my strong background and major in ag gives me the ability to have a better understanding of marketing practices and also allows me to communicate well both orally and in writing to benefit the agriculture industry.”
