State 4-H event coordinator begins work Feb. 27

Lindsey Moniz of Laramie has been hired for the new position of state 4-H events coordinator in the College of Agriculture at the University of Wyoming.

Moniz begins Feb. 27, said Susan James, federal relations and staff development coordinator with the UW Cooperative Extension Service (CES). 4-H is the youth arm of the UW CES, and its state offices are in the college.

“I am very excited about accepting the position, and I look forward to working with everyone in the state 4-H office as well as meeting new people around the state,” said Moniz. “The opportunities I will have with this position are going to be endless.”

Moniz grew up on a ranch in northeast Wyoming and was a longtime 4-H member, said James. She received a bachelor’s of science degree in business management from UW in 2001 and has been working as a brokerage specialist with Mountain West Farm Bureau, where she also planned training conferences and special events.  She had also worked as an administrative assistant with the Laramie Chamber of Commerce, where she coordinated activities at the Visitor Information Center and helped organize meetings and banquets. Since leaving the chamber of commerce, she serves on the agribusiness committee and also co-chaired the annual Ag-Appreciation Dinner-Dance.

“We feel Lindsey is bringing great organization skills plus experience in planning large events,” said James. “This is a new position responsible for coordinating all state contests and state and national conferences. Her strong organizational and event-planning skills are going to be beneficial along with her overall knowledge of 4-H programs.”

More than 6,900 youths are involved directly in the Wyoming 4-H program, and more than 25,000 are recipients of 4-H programs and education. Services are provided by more than 3,000 adult volunteers.

The 4-H team is excited to have Moniz on board, said Johnathan Despain, state 4-H and youth development coordinator.

“She brings great skills and talents to this position that will be an asset to the entire state,” he said. “She will be an integral part of making all our state contests, trips, events and activities successful.   As 4-H moves forward, Lindsey’s efforts will play a valuable role in the lives of young people.”
