Wyoming students selected Daniels Scholarship recipients
Five Wyoming high school seniors have been selected Daniels Scholarship recipients, according to the Wyoming State 4-H Office at the University of Wyoming.
They are:
Hot Springs County – Nicole Lutz, Thermopolis, Hot Springs County High School
Lincoln County – Kera-Lynn Wakefield, Kemmerer, Kemmerer High School
Park County – Sylvia Violett, Powell, Powell High School
Uinta County – Alisha Waters, Evanston, Evanston High School
Weston County – Erin Darlington, Newcastle, Newcastle High School
The Wyoming students were referred through the UW Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) 4-H program. 4-H is the youth arm of the UW CES, and its state offices are in the College of Agriculture.
Twenty-three Wyoming students had been referred. Scholarship recipients are required to complete an extensive application and interview process before being selected, said Warren Crawford, state 4-H/youth development specialist.
“Candidates were evaluated in five multi-county areas and at the state level before being selected as a scholarship recipient,” he said. “Scholarship candidates are selected based on their strength of character, leadership and academic potential.”
Through the Daniels Fund established by cable pioneer Bill Daniels, the scholarships are supplemental to other financial aid resources available to students. After other financial resources, including an estimated family contribution, have been applied, the scholarship covers all required tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, and various other miscellaneous expenses.
