Sustainable
Management of Rangeland Resources Initiative Team Meeting Summary
Submitted by Mike Smith
On Friday morning, most of
the county educators and myself attending, the preponderance of discussion
focused on whether the team would focus on process or subject matter. Process
won. My sense of how this group intended to function was to maintain frequent
communication over e-mail and meet quarterly or as needed. The communication
would initially regard issues or topics where the initiator felt that some
educational action might be required. The team members could respond individually
but issues of collective importance would be addressed by the team, perhaps
in a meeting, with regard to the specifics of the issue, sources needed,
and a response plan. There were educational issues/topics advanced during
the meeting but I guess the collective wisdom was that these would surface
anyway; the better plan was to be prepared to address those arising with
some urgency and be ready to write grant applications to the most logical
source.
In furtherance of our perception of mission,
we agreed to set up a listserv for the team (range-init@uwyo.edu
is now available containing all the names listed on the initiative team
documents from Glen, dated January 30th), to set a next meeting date/location
(a remote location in Converse County, April 19-20, bring bedroll), and
unanimously acclaimed Eric, an excellent choice, to be our chair.
