Purpose

The purpose of EVOLVE is to engage community leaders in an educational process designed to increase the leadership capacity of individuals and organizations. EVOLVE will empower them to more effectively mobilize community resources for the common purpose of building human and social capital.

People have the right, the capacity, and very often the desire to participate in community decision making. Community leaders everywhere – schools, churches, neighborhoods, civic organizations, and government agencies. If communities are to enjoy the quality of life they desire, they must first invest in the development of their people.

A community-based leadership program helps to build a critical mass of informed and capable leaders. By investing in the development of leaders, a community can continue to grow and become stronger.

What can our community expect to gain?

• Personal growth and self efficacy.
• Stronger community commitment.
• A shared community vision and purpose.
• A better-informed community.
• Increased engagement in community decision making.

How can a community get started?

• Contact the local Cooperative Extension Service office.
• Or, call the State Cooperative Extension Service office at (307) 766-5124.

What do participants say about the program?

“The most important thing I learned was trust and how important it is to successful organizations.

“It has been almost 50 years since I have been in the classroom. Most of my education came from behind the barn so to speak -- from experience and doing. After only two sessions I realize what I have missed over the years. I already look forward to the next class.”

Why is this program different?

• The program is community based. In an age when communities are trying to maintain a desired quality of life on fewer resources, community leadership becomes the key to success.
• Vibrant and sustainable communities in the future must be proactive as opposed to reactive. This program engages community leaders in a proactive leadership process.
